VIETNAM – BANGLADESH RELATIONS
On 11 February 1973, Vietnam and Bangladesh officially established diplomatic relations.
In 1973, Vietnam opened an Embassy in the capital Dhaka; in July 1982, the Embassy was withdrawn.
In November 1993, Bangladesh established an Embassy in Hanoi.
In January 2003, Vietnam reopened its Embassy in Dhaka.
1973:
October: Nguyen Huu Tho, Chairman of the Advisory Council of the Provisional Revolutionary Government of the Republic of South Vietnam, visited Bangladesh.
1978:
December: Foreign Minister Nguyen Duy Trinh visited Bangladesh.
1994:
25-27/5: Foreign Minister Nguyen Manh Cam visited Bangladesh.
1996:
September: Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed visited Vietnam.
1997:
9-10/3: Prime Minister Vo Van Kiet paid an official visit to Bangladesh.
1999:
– 10-12/5: Foreign Minister Abdus Samad Azad visited Vietnam.
– 14-17/11: Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Le Duong Quang visited Bangladesh.
2003:
– 16-18/7: Foreign Minister Nguyen Dy Nien visited Bangladesh.
– October: Agriculture Minister M.K. Anwar visited Vietnam.
2004:
– 22-24/3: State President Tran Duc Luong paid a state visit to Bangladesh.
– July: Foreign Minister M. Morshed Khan and Culture Minister Selima Rahman visited Vietnam.
2005:
17-19/5: Prime Minister Khaleda Zia paid an official visit to Vietnam.
2006:
06-7/02: First session of the Joint Committee (chaired by the Minister of Industry and Trade), held in Vietnam.
2009:
– 30-31/5: Bangladeshi Industries Minister Dilip Barua visited Vietnam.
– 17-21/6: A delegation from Bangladesh’s National Board of Privatization visited Vietnam.
– 16/7: Bangladeshi Foreign Minister Dipu Moni met Deputy Prime Minister/Foreign Minister Pham Gia Khiem on the sidelines of the Non-Aligned Movement Summit in Egypt.
– 15-23/8: Bangladesh’s Deputy Minister of Science, Information and Communication Technology visited Vietnam.
– 26-28/8: Bangladeshi Minister of Posts and Telecommunications R.U. Ahmed Raju attended the World Information Technology Forum (WITFOR) in Hanoi.
– 18-19/11: Bangladeshi Health and Family Welfare Minister Ruhul Haque visited Vietnam.
2012:
02-04/11: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina paid an official visit to Vietnam.
2013:
06-07/4: Second session of the Joint Committee, held in Dhaka, co-chaired by the Ministers of Industry and Trade of Vietnam and of Commerce of Bangladesh.
2015:
09-13/8: President Md Abdul Hamid paid a state visit to Vietnam
2017:
– 01-05/4: Standing Vice Chairwoman of the National Assembly Tong Thi Phong visited Bangladesh and attended the 136th IPU Assembly in Dhaka.
– 20-23/7: Speaker of Parliament Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury paid an official visit to Vietnam.
– 06/8: First round of Political Consultations between the two Ministries of Foreign Affairs, held in Dhaka. Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Dang Dinh Quy led the Vietnamese delegation.
2018:
04-06/3: President Tran Dai Quang paid a state visit to Bangladesh.
2019:
– 29-30/01: Vietnamese Prime Minister’s Special Envoy, Deputy Minister Nguyen Quoc Dung, visited Bangladesh and presented USD 100,000 (USD 50,000 to the Government and USD 50,000 to the WFP).
– 26-27/12: The 2nd session of the Vietnam – Bangladesh Joint Trade Sub-Committee, co-chaired by Vietnam’s Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Cao Quoc Hung and Bangladesh’s Deputy Minister of Commerce Md. Jafar Uddin, was held in Hanoi.
